The equipment room is next to the floor, and it shows.
In many manufacturing companies, the critical infrastructure grew along with the factory, as needs arose: an equipment cabinet in an office next to the floor, a household air conditioner, a single power circuit, dust, vibrations and a door left open in summer. It works for years, until the first hot summer or the first power outage longer than the UPS's autonomy.
At the same time, the ERP has become the system everything depends on: orders, stock, planning, invoicing, e-Invoice, SAF-T. The production network — PLCs, SCADA, control stations — runs on software the machine vendor no longer updates and is connected, most of the time, to the same network as the offices. Industrial manufacturing is a frequent target for ransomware attacks, precisely because a shutdown creates immediate pressure to pay the ransom in order to resume activity as fast as possible.
We know where infrastructure fails in a factory, because we have intervened in factories where an hour of downtime comes with enormous costs. The difference between a technical room and a datacenter is not an engineer's preference, but the difference between a two-hour outage and a two-day one.
Five situations we encounter in manufacturing companies
The critical infrastructure sits on or next to the production floor.
Dust, heat, vibrations, a single power source, uncontrolled access — all of these create an environment unsuitable for certain equipment to operate in. In the long run this can bring high repair or replacement costs.
The ERP is the single point of failure for the whole company.
Orders, stock, planning, invoicing — all in a single system, often on a single server, without a clear and tested restart plan.
The production network (OT) and the office network (IT) are the same network.
PLCs, SCADA and control stations on systems without updates, accessible from any office computer. An email opened by mistake can reach all the way to the machines.
There are several work sites, but a single link.
The floors, warehouses and offices are connected over a single route, and if it goes down, the location is isolated and production has to work on paper.
The backup exists, but without a full restore.
In case of an incident, the most important question is „how soon do we restart production?". Even if you have a backup, without a fully tested restore you won't have an answer to that question.
In a factory, any vulnerability can bring a costly shutdown. An assessment puts on paper exactly where you stand, what's worth keeping and what needs to change, in order of impact on production. Schedule a conversation with our engineers.
The ITPS approach in manufacturing
Monitoring and intervention.
Through our Managed Services, critical systems — ERP, servers, network, the systems on the floor — are monitored continuously. Diagnosis is done quickly and documented, and response times are set by contract and SLA.
OT/IT segmentation: the production network, separated from the TESA network.
We design and implement segmented data networks: the production network (OT) separated from the TESA network (IT). Distinct segments, explicitly defined and documented communication rules. Machines and systems with old software keep working, but are no longer accessible from the IT network.
Moving critical systems into an environment designed for them.
Systems that don't need to sit on the floor can run in our Tier III datacenter in Timișoara with redundant power, properly sized cooling and controlled access. What has to stay local stays local, with replication to the datacenter.
Backup and restore tests, measured in production-restart time.
We don't consider a backup functional until its restore has been tested and recorded. We give a clear answer to the question „how soon does production restart after an incident?".
Redundant links between work sites.
For companies with multiple locations, we design the data communications so that a failure on the main route doesn't isolate a floor or a warehouse.
A whole team, not a single person.
Your infrastructure is documented: configurations, procedures, intervention history, so continuity no longer depends on one person's memory. And if you already have an in-house IT specialist, we work alongside them, complementing their skills.
Coverage across all shifts.
Our contracts cover the intervals in which your factory works — including nights and weekends. This is one of the reasons 95% of our clients choose to renew their contracts.
The relevant services for industrial manufacturing
Of the six main services we offer, four are of particular importance for an industrial manufacturing company:
Managed Services →
We augment the local team with specialists in specific technologies. We take over systems monitoring and provide on-site intervention for incidents, across all shifts.
Hosting & Colocation →
Critical systems leave the technical room next to the floor and move into our Tier III datacenter in Timișoara — or replicate there, for continuity.
Backup & Disaster Recovery →
Backups for the ERP, production data and critical systems, with documented restore tests and a clear restart plan.
IT Audit & Consulting →
A complete analysis of the IT environment: how the OT zone is separated from the IT zone, under what conditions the equipment operates, which remediation takes priority.
Compliance and certifications
Information-security requirements coming from clients and insurers are constantly rising in industrial manufacturing. Certain branches of manufacturing are among those targeted by GEO 155/2024; for many others, the requirements arrive indirectly, through clients who assess their suppliers. ITPS operates its own Tier III datacenter, with ISO 27001:2022 (information security) and ISO 9001 (quality management) certifications, and your data stays on Romanian territory. Compliance remains your organization's responsibility. What we do concretely is implement the technical measures, segment the production network and build the documentation that proves these measures.
Avem peste 80 de certificări pentru platformele pe care rulează afacerea dumneavoastră. Colaborăm cu 20 de furnizori de tehnologie best-of-breed.

Request an assessment of the production-stoppage risk.
An ITPS engineer analyzes the current state of your infrastructure together with you: where the production network is exposed, under what conditions the critical equipment operates, what's worth remediating by priority.
We reply within the next business day.
